Jasi Hang Rai was born in the Himalayan Solo Kumbu Region of Nepal in the Year 1976. He started singing the traditional Rai music at an early age.
After finishing school, he studied music and learned to play harmonium, maclal, guitar, tabla.
Since 15 years he is living in Kathmandu and working as a professional musician and music teacher.
Jasi became well known by many appearances in concerts and festivals. He produced two solo CDs and participated in other CD productions as well.
His concerts took him all around his country Nepal and also to Europe.

With a group of Nepalese musicians he collects and preserves the tunes of classical and folk Nepalese music. He is involved in the social organisations of his country, working for the uplift of the backwarded community.
His philosophy is expressed in a Sanskrit saying:
saahitya, sangeet, kalaa bihina:
Sakshat Pashu Puchchha Vishaana Hina:
Translation:
"Without Literature, Music and Art,
Human-being is like an animal who has no tail."
